Before you think....wow her sewing has come along way in a year...my mum made this dress for me. Beautiful isn't it! I loved the dress as soon as I saw the Duchess wear the Alexander McQueen gown to the BAFTA celebration in LA.
The top layer is chiffon and the lining is a satin polyester. The lining is fitted at the top and a-lines down to a skirt. To make the gathers, we made the chiffon top four times wider than the lining and then gathered it up. We made a seperate gathered skirt and joined the two together.
Hmmm there's alot of "we's" in that last paragraph, hahaha!!! As explained before, mum made....I watched (some of the time) hahaha.
That seems simple enough to explain, but in reality it was hard to get the gathers to sit down and not balloon out but it was a super-star effort by my mum and it looked gorgeous.
The belt was going to be the tough part because to buy a diamonte belt cost a small fortune...until I remembered I had bought strands of beads for my bridesmaides that never got used. They alone had cost me $110 so I was glad 6 years later they were put to good use. That was my big imput into the outfit - I glued all the diamonte's onto the belt !
This gown was to wear to a ball on Saturday night, but the Thursday prior, my sweet little girl chocked on a piece of apple. The ambulance came and we got the main piece of apple out, but two tiny pieces had been inhaled into her left lung and was blocking one of the main breathing tubes. They had to operate and remove the apple and then she was put on antibiotics straight away to clear up the infection in her lung that had started. But she is a strong little girl and we were able to leave the hospital the next day. So after much dilemma and guilt we decided to still go to the ball...and so I got to wear my new dress.
