New York Fashion Week started last Thursday...
“Indeed, Kate’s influence will be felt on the runways on Thursday when New York Fashion Week begins, if not in any literal sense, then surely as a state of mind. “We are in a Kate moment,” said Ed Burstell, the managing director for Liberty of London. Mr. Burstell, who expects to see a pronounced “Kate effect” in New York this week, added that since her recent tours abroad, “everyone wants to look like her, to act like her, to be her.”
Yes, so my crush on Catherine's style continues with a copy of this DVF 'Maja' dress.
If I ever choose to work with satin material again, please remind me NO. It slips all over the place and it was so hard to deal with, for me anyway. But, I'm pretty proud that I managed to make it all by myself (apart from a bit of guidance around the neckline facings from my mum).
The funny thing was the dress kept filling with static and sticking to me. I sprayed myself over and over again with hair spray because I was SURE that was what mum said to counter-act the problem....she was laughing so hard when I told her that it didn't work...the real solution was body lotion ! Aggghhhhh how did I get that so so wrong ?! Hahahahaha
Check-out the 1987 pattern I used to make the dress! What a classic! It was in mum's huge stash of pattern's. It worked perfectly, I just had to adjust the back to a "V" shape, put a bit of extra width into the back for the buttons and adjust the hem and sleeve length. I think I might use this pattern again to make a top.
