These pants were made with a great pattern by Lily Bird Studio called the 'Ben and Mia Pants'. I didn't change one thing, I followed the pattern exactly and they turned out great. They must be really comfortable for my son to wear being just an elasticised waist band. The piping around the pockets was suggested to be contrasting fabric, but I was unsure whether that would make them a bit too quirky for him to wear, so I just put the fun fabric inside the pockets. I added some circles and curved stitching onto the back pockets for some extra detail, but you can't really see it at all because I used a matching thread. Next time I'll be abit more adventurous and use a darker cotton. I've got some nice material in my stash that would make great pants for my daughter so I'll get onto those in the next few days. Yes, the pattern is for boys and girls, with just a slight waist variation on the boys pattern. Un Petit Design has also made two really nice pairs if you want more inspiration to give this pattern a go.
The best part was, I didn't know if the colour and shape made them too retro but when I showed my son he was immediately excited shouting, "Oh cool, cowboy pants!"
